Hindsight is great but remember this is a spectator-based business. Selling your best-performing players at their height is a gut punch to supporters who have little else.

If we are challenging for trophies and we needed one more piece elsewhere or if someone somehow decided to offer us Bal -like money for one of our players, it is a consideration.

But there is so little loyalty in the game on all sides, I will take a few "mistakes" like Kouyate's last two years if it means there is a little bit more in my team.

At least now we don’t have to put up with West Ham Fan TV calling him Keeeyatt-ayy

Loved it when he did the Payet song at the end of season awards, bloke had a smashing personality but was a bit hit and miss on the field, I can only wish him well for the future, bar when he plays against us

Re: Koyate's gone...
He tried hard and was always there to take one for the team. By all accounts popular with the squad and what a smile!
You'd have to be particularly mean spirited not to wish him well for the future.

I will always remember his glorious faceplant after Reid scored the winner against Man U in the final game at Upton Park.

Re: Koyate's gone...
In his first couple of seasons with us, he turned in a few performances that were (whisper it quietly) Billy Bonds-ish at his pomp.

It wasn't often enough though and over the last couple of seasons his tactical discipline was all over the shop...he was never where you would expect an anchorman to be.

Not the worst player we've ever had but frustrating to watch on a bad day.

Good luck to him at Palarse.

Effort.... energy.... box to box..... athlete..... runs around a lot..... good guy in training room..... passes better with his head, shoulder and thigh than he does his feet....

.... fuck me maybe if only I was 25 years younger I could have made it as a pro footballer in today's game.... to be fair if I had ever passed a football the same as Kouyate did in his term with us I would have quit before I did...

Re: Koyate's gone...
I think the main issue with Cheik over the last few seasons was that he was played all over the place which shot his confidence. But now was probably a good time to sell. We have now outgrown him and at 28 it is right to sell and replace with younger and better. In hindsight best time to sell was a couple of summers ago when Spurs were sniffing about at £20m But we did not know that then and the site would have been in uproar had we sold him then!
At least we didn't double his money on a 6 year contract a las Reid and Antonio!
That having been said he was what we needed over the first 2-3 seasons and we should be grateful.
(Also think after a quiet start Palace look to be doing good business - their midfield actually looks on a par with ours if they get Meyer too, with more PL experience).

Re: Koyate's gone...
Reached his level at Palace. Not good enough for us going to the "next level". Short and sweet;

Will be Noble next season when Pelle has found a new leader.

I get the bandaged wrist falling on his hands every game, but the Egyptian mummy look stumped even me.

I'm really grateful for what Kouyate has done for us.

Strengthened us by leaving, and at the same time weakened Palace.

What a good guy.

This move makes sense and show that Pelligrini is bringing his own ethos to the club.

Re: Koyate's gone...
I see Kouyate as one of the lynchpins of the squad over the past 4 years. Probably over that period our best player overall. I don't doubt that now is likely time to sell, and maybe it should have been a year or two back to get best value. #whufc

For explosive strength and forward momentum under the best of Bilic Kouyate was key imo. Our set-piece threat over the broader period was crucial. Finesse was not his thing. I don't quite see how you replace that on a budget short-term - have to hope a different approach works.

You have to credit him!

Liked kouyate. Not at his best last season, and right time for him to go. But goes with my blessing.
